Thumbnails links in CZ records

Primo thumbnails are provided from several predefined sources, such as Syndetics Unbound, Google Scholar, Alma-D and more, as described here.

For some Community Zone providers, thumbnails are not available through these sources. To support displaying thumbnails for such titles in Primo, a new thumbnail source based on Community Zone (CZ) records is being introduced.

Thumbnails provided by content providers to CZ records are stored as full URLs in the local field 957 $u, and will include its source.
Example: 957 $z Cover Image $u https://www.kanopy.com/node/14143141/external-image $x Kanopy.

Primo Configuration

To display these thumbnails in Primo, you will need to add a Thumbnail Template in:
Configuration Menu > Discovery > Display Configuration > Thumbnail Configuration

Configuration details are described here.

Use the following settings:

  • Template name: e.g. Thumbnails from CZ
  • Field: 957
  • Subfield: u
  • Use field: Always (unless you want to use only for specific URLs)
  • Normalization: No Normalization
  • Template: $$LinkingParameter1

After configuration, records from providers that supply thumbnail links to CZ records will display these thumbnails in Primo.
