    Overview

    The Leganto roadmap is a means to communicate the key priorities and developments with the Leganto community. The roadmap is based on feedback received from the Leganto community.

    The Leganto roadmap gives a view of the development that can be expected. As priorities are developed by the community and information becomes available from the community voting, the roadmap will be updated to reflect updated development plans.

    Roadmap Focus Areas

    In general, Leganto supports providing additional value to libraries through efficient workflows and return on investment on library collections, increasing adoption among instructors through intuitive processes and added value, prioritizing student engagement, including access, affordability, and learning, and providing analytics support decision-making and the ability to demonstrate the library's impact. We always aim to design a roadmap which enhances these underlying product values.

    In 2026 we will focus our development on four key areas: Support for more accessible course materials, improving the discovery and use of affordable content, streamlining course materials fulfillment workflows, and improving the user experience for library staff.

    Track accessibility status of files

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    A configurable field to store the accessibility status of files uploaded to Leganto.

    • List creators will be able to track files which have been checked or fixed for accessibility.
    • Library staff will be able to pull reports on the accessibility status of files.
    • The library will be able to measure and report on the accessibility status of files.

    The library will have the data required to track and measure the accessibility status of files. The library can work more efficiently toward improving file accessibility,  moving toward a more accessible experience for all users.

    Upload multiple versions of a file

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    The option to upload multiple files in different formats per citation. Each file can have a different accessibility status, but the copyright will be per citation, not per file.

    • Users in Leganto and Alma will be able to upload multiple files per citation.
    • Users will be able to set a default file and change the file name.
    • To support copyright requirements, the interface will be designed to discourage instructors from uploading distinct resources, such as separate chapters per file.

    Provide access to a resource in multiple formats to support accessibility needs.

    Request accessible file workflow

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    When enabled, users will be able to request an accessible file for any citation from within the Leganto interface.

    • Users will be able to specify what they need.
    • The request will send an email with the request details. The email can go to recipients in or outside the library.
    • The Library will be able to report on the number of files requested.

    Provide students with the means to request accessible course materials at the point of need. 

    Alt text for images uploaded to Leganto

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    A new field to store Alt text for images uploaded to Leganto lists.

    • List creators will be prompted to review or add an Alt text field when uploading images.
    • Alt text can be generated using AI (Pending POC).

    Provide more accessible course materials for students. 

    Track OER and OA resources on lists

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Metadata fields to track Open Educational Resources (OER) and open access (OA) resources on lists. 

    • Fields will be added automatically and will be editable as needed.
    • Users will see a visual indication when a resources is OER or OA.
    • The library will be able to report on  OER and OA materials in analytics.

    Measure the use of OER and OA, promote OER and OA resources on lists, and track adoption changes over time.

    View reading list data in Rialto

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    View Leganto data within the Rialto marketplace. 

    • Bulk searching of items in a reading list within Rialto.
    • Refine searches by citation tags, current/future courses​.
    • Purchases will link to the citation/s; citation/s metadata will update automatically.

    Expose course materials requirements and streamline the purchasing processes so the library can provide access to course materials more efficiently. 

    Rialto integration: newer edition available for purchase

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Indication in Leganto, based on data from Rialto, that a newer edition of a title is available for purchase.

    • An indication in Leganto when Rialto has information about a newer edition not held by the library.
    • Workflows for the instructor to request that the library purchase the item.

    Provide instructors with the means to check for newer editions which they might choose to use in their courses. Ensure the library has an efficient means to purchase newer editions when requested.

    Filter lists according to inventory type

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    A new filtering option to view lists in Leganto according to inventory type: Physical, Online, File, None.

    • Leganto will store information about the inventory type per citation .
    • Users will be able to filter lists in Leganto.
    • The library will be able to report on inventory in analytics.

    Easily understand and measure the inventory available for course materials items.

    Easily identify citations with no inventory.

    H2 2026 Enhancements

    Improve accessibility of PDFs uploaded to Leganto

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Functionality within Leganto to improve the accessibility of PDFs that have been uploaded to reading lists.

    • Run OCR (Optical Character Recognition) process on files.
    • More advanced file remediation using AI, potentially including fixing tags, etc. (Pending POC).

    Provide students will more accessible course materials  within Leganto.

    Recommendations for OER replacements

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Provide recommendations for (Open Educational Resources) OER to replace material on a Leganto list.

    • Users will be able to view recommendations. for materials to replace specific items on their lists (such as materials not available from the library.) 
    • Users will have the option to add the materials or replace the original item.

    Promote the use of affordable and open content on reading lists.

    Improve library affordability and student affordability.

    Flag potential issues due to concurrent user licenses

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    An indication in Leganto when a citation has a concurrent user license restriction.

    • A visual alert to instructors when  an item on their lists will not be available to all students simultaneously.
    • A workflow to request additional licenses from the library.

    Provide instructors with the information required to ensure they have a positive experience when using library resources in courses.

    Purchase request workflows from Leganto

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Dedicated workflows for instructors to request the purchase of course materials.

    • Dedicated requesting workflows from Leganto (single item and in bulk).

    Clarify processes for instructors and improve efficiency.

    "Next steps" from the Syllabus assistant

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    As part of the "Check library availability" workflow, provide alternative options when a resource is not available from the library.

    • Alternative options might include: 
      • Request purchase
      • Use personal copy
      • Look for replacement

    Efficiently guide instructors to available fulfillment options, ensuring access for students.

    Rebuild course loader integration profile

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Build a second version of the course loader integration profile.

    • Include the new School/Faculty reporting field.
    • Institutions will be able to use either version, migrating as resources allow.

    Take advantage up the reporting field for School/Faculty added in 2025.

    Workflow reports

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Out of the box reports to enable libraries to measure and report on processing workflows.

    Out of the box reports to measure library processing workflows to answer questions such as: 

    • How many resources are complete by day one of courses?
    • How long does it take us to process a list after it has been submitted?
    • What percentage of citations require library processing?

    Gain visibility into library workflows, provide instructors with accurate expectations for turnaround times, and identify areas where further efficiencies could be gained.

    Begin move to Alma Next Gen UX

    What’s New Highlights Impact

    Begin the development effort to move the Courses, Reading Lists, and Citations pages in Alma to the Next Gen UX.

    • Design will be done in partnership with the Leganto and course reserves community.
    • Users will be able to opt in, then opt out before full release.

    A more enjoyable and more efficient experience for library staff managing and processing reading lists in Alma.
