Our v4 management interface [/M] not working correctly

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: MetaLib
    • Product Version: 4

    Description:
Our management interface [/M] is behaving strangely.
I can search for and display an IRD but when I click on the ? to view CKB notes, a blank screen pops up.
In fact anytime a window pops up it is blank.
Sporadically I'm not able to use global updating and if I am able to invoke a global update the error code that I'm not allowed to make changes shows up, even though I'm logged in as a superuser.

    Resolution:
The www_server_m_4331.log shows several errors related to the management files (www_m_eng):

    2008-04-16 15:43:09.659 ERROR 'read_file: can't open /exlibris/metalib/m4_3/utf_files/dat01/www_m_eng/ird-n-head-metalib' [www_com.www_read_file.c] 7815 xxxxx

Check the /www_m_eng/ directory within the utf_files directory (/exlibris/metalib/m4_3/utf_files/dat01/www_m_eng) and all of the files are owned by 'root' [they should in fact be owned by 'metalib']:

    -rw-rw-r-- 1 root other 639 Apr 7 15:59 ckb-update-message
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 root other 594 Apr 7 16:15 filter-tail-no-change
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 root other 4042 Apr 7 16:15 filter-head
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 root other 467 Apr 7 16:15 filter-body
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 root other 353 Apr 7 16:16 field-change-refresh

As a matter of course, you should probably check other directories; such as $metalib_utf/utf_files/:
    drwxrwxr-x 4 root other 512 Apr 2 10:46 ins01/
    drwxrwxr-x 4 root other 512 Apr 2 22:51 ins00/
    drwxr-xr-x 5 metalib exlibris 512 Apr 7 03:01 dat01/
    drwxrwxr-x 3 root other 512 Apr 7 03:08 vir00/
    drwxrwxr-x 3 root other 512 Apr 7 03:08 vir01/
    drwxr-xr-x 4 metalib exlibris 512 Apr 16 03:22 pds/

Please login as root and delete the entire contents of the utf_files directory (/exlibris/metalib/m4_3/utf_files).
All of these files will get recreated as the user and management interfaces are used - the actual files in /exlibris/metalib/m4_3/dat01/www_m_eng/ and the other directories are owned by metalib, so that should resolve the problem.
MetaLib is very sensitive about having files owned by metalib instead of root.
