Understanding the PC to Alma Activation Report

    Return to menu

    Introduction

The Enablement phase (phase 1 of your move to CDI) copies your activation settings for each collection in PC and maps them to CDI in Alma and then stores the details of the move in the PC to Alma Activation Report, which is stored in Alma. This document describes the information contained in the report.

Accessing the PC to Alma Activation Report

The PC to Alma Activation Report is accessible after the enablement phase from the Alma interface (Resources > Advanced Tools > PC to CDI Activation Report).

What Will Happen during the Move?

As part of the move the following will happen:

    • For all active collections whose full text settings are controlled by the link resolver in your Primo Central institutional profile, the following will occur in Alma:

      • They will be activated for search.

      • Since the full text settings are already controlled by Alma, there is no change to the full text settings.

    • For all active collections whose full text settings are controlled at the collection level in your Primo Central institutional profile, the following will occur in Alma:

      • They will be activated for search.

      • If they were not already active in Alma, they will be set to Active for full text in CDI only.

In most cases, there is a one-to-one relationship between a collection in Primo Central and a collection in Alma. However, in some cases, there is a difference in how collections are represented in each system. The reasons vary. In general, Alma is more concerned with how collections are purchased while Primo Central is concerned with how data is being ingested for search. For more details, see The PC to Alma CZ Mapping Rules and The PC to Alma Mapping Table (coming soon).

    Type of Relationship Examples

One-to-One: One collection in Primo Central to one collection in Alma.

This represents most of the Alma/Primo Central mappings and applies to collections where full text link is handled using Link in record and activation occurs at the package level.

    ScienceDirect Journals

Many-to-One: Many collections in Primo Central are represented by one collection in Alma.

This can occur in case of a ‘selective’ package in Alma, where the provider offers a single list of journals to which the library subscribes and can activate in Alma. In Primo Central, the provider offered multiple load files for discovery.

sciELO Argentina is mapped to the following collections:

    • Scielo

    • sciELO Brasil

    • sciELO Chile

    • sciELO Uruguay

The following collections are mapped to Cambridge Histories Online:

    • Cambridge Histories Online: American history

    • Cambridge Histories Online: American literature

    • Cambridge Histories Online: Archaeology

    • Cambridge Histories Online: British history

    • Cambridge Histories Online: Classical studies

    • Cambridge Histories Online: Drama and theatre

    • ….

    • Cambridge Histories Online: Music

    • Cambridge Histories Online: Philosophy

    • Cambridge Histories Online: Religion

One-to-Many: (very few cases) One collection in Primo Central is represented by many collections in Alma.

JSTOR Archival Journals: Ecology & Botany are mapped to the following collections:

    • JSTOR Ecology & Botany I + JSTOR Ecology & Botany II

Brill Journal Archive Online is mapped to the following collections:

    • Brill Online Journals Archive Part 1 + Brill Online Journals Archive Part 2

The Details of the PC to Alma Activation Report

The following table below lists describes the content of each column in the PC to Alma Activation Report:

    Column Details

    PC ID

    Primo Central collection ID.

    Electronic Collection Name

Name of the collection as it appears in Alma.

    Alma Collection ID

    Alma internal collection ID.

    CDI Search activation status

Status of the collection in Alma after the move from the Primo Central institutional profile in regards to search. It will most likely contain the word “activated” to indicate that this collection was activated for search in Alma.

    CDI full text availability status

Status of the collection in Alma after the move from the Primo Central institutional profile in regards to full text availability. The following status can appear:

    • No change – set on item level based on all Alma portfolio activations: This appears for collections with the full text status being managed by the individual portfolio activations in Alma (CDI full text linking method is set to linkresolver)

    • No change – collection already active in Alma: Appears if a collection is set to full text available on collection level (CDI full text linking method is set to link in record) but was already active on Alma so no change was required

    • Activated for CDI only: Appears if a collection is set to full text available on collection level (CDI full text linking method is set to link in record) but was not active in Alma before the move. For such cases we introduced this new status that sets a collection to full text available on collection level only for CDI. The full text will not appear on the UResolver or any other Alma function.

    Available for

Only relevant for multi-campus environments and indicates for which campus the collection is activated.

    CDI Full text linking method

This column indicates how records in a collection link to full text. The following statuses are possible:

    • Link in Record – The collection is set to full text available on collection level and the links within the records are used to access the full text from the discovery interface.

    • Linkresolver – The full text links are created via Alma.

    Notes

Describes additional information about the move, such as the following statuses:

    • Collection was not active in Alma

    • Collection was already active in Alma

The following statuses relate to collections that have not been added or mapped and that can be ignored:

    • Failed to fetch collection

    • Missing mapping for PC ID: …

For each type of collection, the following information will be shown in the move report:

PC Collections Not Yet Indexed in CDI

The following collections, which exist in Primo Central, have not been indexed in CDI. Currently, they do not appear in Alma and cannot be activated in the automated move process. In the Activation report, you will see that they are marked as missing. As we index them in CDI and add them to Alma, they will be listed in the release notes. Please activate them manually in Alma if applicable. For a full list of mapped collections, see CDI Collection Lists.
