The PC to Alma CZ and SFX CKB Mapping Rules
Introduction
In order to move customers’ Primo Central (PC) activations to Alma or SFX (for CDI single activation), the collections in the Primo Central were mapped against collections in the Alma Community Zone (CZ) or SFX CKB.
The collections in PC and Alma both reflect the providers' offerings. However, since they are supporting different products for different purposes (such as search vs. e-resource management/linking), there is not always a one-to-one match. For such cases, we applied rules as described in this document.
Please note that the activation in Alma is for search only. The PC to Alma activation process does not touch your general Alma activations. If the process finds that a collection is active for search and full text delivery in Primo Central (for collections that use the link in the record and do not rely on the link resolver for full text indications) but this collection is not yet active in Alma, it will be set it to full text available in CDI only by the process. For more information, see Understanding the PC to Alma Activation Report.
In SFX, the PC to CDI activation process will, in some cases, change the general SFX activations. If the process finds that a collection is active for search and full text delivery in Primo Central (for collections that use the link in the record and do not rely on the link resolver for full text indications) but this target is not yet active in SFX, the target will be activated on target level only by the process. The full text service and portfolios will not be activated during the PC to CDI activation process. For more information, see Understanding the PC to SFX Activation Report.

Mapping Rules
Direct matches (one-to-one relationships) are always preferred. This applies, for example—to all PC collections set to full text available at the collection level (using the link in the record) which usually have a corresponding counterpart in the CZ or SFX CKB. For collections using the link resolver, a many-to-one relationship is common, and in some cases a one-to-many relationship may exist.
The following rules apply to all collections with some exceptions (where no corresponding collection exists that meets the conditions set in the rules):
-
PC collections are mapped to Alma collections or SFX targets that were received from the content providers and not to collections contributed by customers
-
A preference was given not to not map to consortia and third-party collections (for example, KB+, JISC, BACON, and so forth) because these collections usually reflect the offering for specific customer groups only.
-
A preference was given to collections with portfolios rather than to database type collections
-
In cases where there are several Alma collections or SFX targets matching one PC collection's content, a preference was given to the Alma collection or SFX target with the higher number of portfolios, with the better currency and newer update date.
-
In cases where there is no exact match in Alma for a collection or in SFX for a target, it is mapped to a more inclusive version which includes the content of the PC collection. For example:
PC Alma or SFX Archival Journals: Arts & Sciences 01
JSTOR Arts and Sciences I
SAGE Royal Society of Medicine Backfile
SAGE Royal Society of Medicine Clinical Collection
SAGE Royal Society of Medicine Full Collection
SAGE Royal Society of Medicine Medico-Legal Collection
SAGE Royal Society of Medicine Pharmaceutical Collection
Sage Royal Society of Medicine
-
In cases where one collection in Alma or SFX has the same content as several separate collections in Primo Central a many-to-one mapping rule is applied. For example:
PC Alma or SFX World News Connection - Sub-Saharan Africa
World News Connection - Central and Eastern Europe
World News Connection - Latin America and the Caribbean
World News Connection - Central Asia and the Caucasus
World News Connection - North Africa
World News Connection - Southeast Asia and Oceania
World News Connection - Western Africa
World News Connection - Near and Middle East
World News Connection - East Asia
World News Connection - Western Europe
World News Connection - South Asia
East View World News Connection
-
In a very few cases, one PC collection is mapped to multiple Alma collections or SFX targets. For example:
PC Alma or SFX Brill Journal Archive Online
Brill Online Journals Archive Part 1
Brill Online Journals Archive Part 2
-
In cases where PC has an All collections option for a specific provider (for example, All JSTOR Collections or All Brill Collections), they are mapped to the full list of Alma collections. For example:
PC Alma or SFX *** ALL Brill Collections ***
267 Alma collections that are mapped to the PC collections contained in "All Brill Collection".
