Question

When uploading a zipped customization package the error message "Validation error: File type db is not allowed in the zip file" is shown and the upload fails subsequently.

Answer

Please check if the zipped files contain "thumbs.db".

This file is created automatically by Windows as a thumbnail cache which is used to store thumbnail images for Windows Explorer when thumbnail view is enabled. You can find the file by activating the display of hidden files in the windows file viewer (Windows > "computer" > "organize" > "folder and search options" > "view" tab> "files and folders" > "hidden files and folders" > check the "show…" option).

The file will get created by Windows every time you are trying to view a directory in file viewer with the show thumbnails option enabled. Different versions of Windows can have different behavior on this feature ( see details on Wikipedia).

If you can find thumbs.db you can delete it and upload the file.

Additional Information

Please see additional information on uploading the customization package here.
