Configuring Contextual Relationships for Primo VE

As part of our Central Discovery Index project (CDI), we have created a graph database that contains relationships between records so that users can easily explore the following types of relationships from a record's Full Display.

Supported Related Reading Relationships

Book chapters (full text or not) are returned in the results list, regardless of the selected filtering option (Available online or Expand beyond the library holdings).

Viewing the List of Related Links

Selecting a related-reading link displays the related items, as follows:

In the original UI, a new tab opens and displays a results page, where users can decide which items to view.

Chapter Results Page
In the NDE UI, the list of related links is included in the Full Display page itself, in a dedicated section for each type of relationship, as appropriate to the type of resource (Chapters of this Book and Book Reviews for books; Other Chapters of this Book and Book Reviews for book chapters). Selecting a related-reading link moves the display to this section and expands the section if it was previously collapsed. If the list contains more than five items, a scrollbar is provided to navigate through the list.
From the dedicated section, users can select an item to view it. The Full Display of the item then opens in a new tab.

Other Chapters of this Book Section Expanded, and Book Reviews Section, Collapsed (NDE UI)

In some cases, when selecting the Chapters of this book link, the resource type of the records is displayed as Journal Article (not Book Chapter). This can occur for a collection with a book series having multiple volumes, each a collection of research articles. If most providers identify this content as a journal, CDI displays the merged record as a Journal Article.

For example, suppose CDI ingests and indexes the title Islet Autoantibody Detection by Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) Assay as a book chapter within a book from the provider Springer, and ingests and indexes the same title as a journal article published in the journal Methods in Molecular Biology from the providers PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest. In this case, the record appears as a Journal Article.

Configuration Options

This functionality is enabled by default. The following table describes the configuration options that support this functionality.

To configure them to be expanded initially, select the Expand by default checkbox in their row.
