Ebook Central Electronic License Upgrades
Rialto enables users to upgrade the access model for Ebook Central titles directly from the License Upgrades (EBC) page (Collection Development > Market). Users can upgrade to any higher license type than the one currently owned, for example:
- 1-user license (
) → 3-user licenses (
) - 1-user license (
) → unlimited access (
) - 3-user license (
) → unlimited access (
)
If multiple license types are owned for the same work, the lower-tier license must be upgraded first. For example, if both a 1-user and a 3-user license are held and the goal is to upgrade to unlimited access, the system requires upgrading the 1-user license first. All pricing reflects the upgrade path from the lower-tier license.
License upgrades are available only to institutions using the new invoicing platform.
- Navigate to Collection Development > Market > Licenses Upgrades (EBC).
- The page opens with a query builder preset to display titles held by your institution on the Ebook Central platform.
Upgrade-eligible items - Refine the query as needed to locate specific titles. See Advanced Search for more information on query options.
- For each eligible title, the results list displays the current Ebook Central license, the available upgrade option, and the cost of that upgrade. Select Upgrade next to the desired license upgrade.
Current Ebook Central license and the available upgrade option - Selecting Upgrade adds the upgrade item to your cart (see Adding Offers to Shopping Cart and Checking Out). Upon checkout, the access model is updated and an upgrade PO Line is created.
Selecting a title on the License Upgrades (EBC) page opens a detailed view, which displays the institution’s local holdings for that title. The Upgrade option is also available from this view.
