    Configuring DDA Profiles

    The following roles are required to create and manage DDA profiles:

    • Rialto Administrator

    If your institution is subscribed to a Demand Driven Acquisition (DDA, same as Patron Driven Acquisition, PDA) agreement with a platform (see Patron Driven Acquisition), you can configure DDA profiles within Rialto for automatic inclusion of e-resources in the DDA pool. The DDA profile determines which offers are included in the DDA pool, according to the ranking profile and the capping on the number of offers defined in the profile. You can define multiple DDA profiles, each with different parameters. 

    The DDA profiles run weekly, on Wednesdays 12:30 am, EST.

    Once the profile was created, you need to activate it. Once active, the profile runs in the background, without disturbing any interactive processes and operations. You can activate and deactivate existing profiles at any time.

    To begin using DDA in Rialto, reach out to ProQuest to coordinate initial configuration between Rialto and the hosting platform(s). As part of this process, consultants can help you configure a DDA profile for one or several DDA platforms.


    Once you go live with using DDA profiles in Rialto, all profiling and adding to a DDA pool must be handled from within Rialto. Rialto does not presently monitor changes to a DDA pool triggered from other platforms or systems. If you need to update your DDA pool (e.g., to remove titles), contact ProQuest to coordinate this update with the platform.

    You can manage DDA profiles on the DDA Profile List page (Market > Manage Profiles and Ranking > DDA Profiles).

    Managing DDA profiles includes:

    Creating a DDA Profile

    You can create a new DDA profile, or you can duplicate an existing profile and edit its criteria, and then save it as a new profile. Once created, you can configure the profile's criteria. 

    To create a DDA profile:

    1. On the DDA Profile List page (Market > Manage Profiles and Rankings > DDA Profiles), select Add DDA Profile. The Profile Name Placeholder page appears.

      Alternatively, you can check an existing profile and select Duplicate in the row actions list. You can then edit the copy of the profile and save it under a new name. Note that this may cause multiple profiles with overlapping or conflicting filters to add offers to the pool--ensure that filters are designed to coordinate between profiles running in parallel.
    2. In the panel on the right-hand side, enter the name and description for your DDA profile.

    3. Move the slider to activate the profile or leave deactivated, if you are creating the profile for future needs. You can activate the profile at any time. 

    4. Select the ordering library, which is the library that owns the purchase order line that will be created if a purchase is triggered.. Once selected, another field opens, where you are required to select the fund. 

    5. Select the fund to be encumbered once the e-resource is purchased through the DDA program. Funds that appear are either owned by the ordering library or available to all libraries in the institution.

    6. Indicate the cap, or the maximum number of best fit e-resources to be added automatically to the DDA pool each time this profile runs.

    7. Select the ranking profile at the top of the page to define the order in which the e-resources are presented. Note that the ranking profile must already be created at this point. 

    8. Prior to saving your selections, test the profile to validate that it brings the desired results. See Testing the DDA Profile.

    9. Click Save to save the DDA profile. You can now proceed to configuring the profile. 

    Configuring the DDA Profile

    A profile is comprised of one or more criteria that filter the e-resources to be included in the DDA program.

    When creating profiles, you can add individual or groups of criteria. When adding individual criteria, you define the same relationship between all the criteria (either AND or OR). When adding groups of criteria, you can define different relationships within the groups and between the groups (for example, AND between the groups but OR within a group).

    Note that only the criteria that you included in the profile are used to filter the e-resources matching the profile. Criteria that you did not include in the profile do not affect the e-resources. For example, if 'Price' was included as a criterion in the profile, only e-resources in the range that you specified will be considered for DDA. But it 'Price' was not included as a criterion, e-resources of any price will be considered for DDA. 

    Configuring a DDA profile is identical to configuring a recommendation feed profile, with the exception being the the "DDA Available" filter is already set to "true" in the background.. For details, see Configuring the Recommendations Feed Profile.

    Testing the DDA Profile 

    Before activating the profile, it may be a good idea to validate that your DDA profile brings the desired results, and if it does not, edit it some more.

    You can test your entire profile or only a single group of criteria within the profile. 

    To test a recommendation profile:
    • Once you have created your profile, click test profile icon.png. You can click it for the entire profile or for a single group of criteria within the profile. 

      The screen splits, and the e-resource candidates to DDA appear on the left, in the order defined by the selected ranking profile. If you like the result, click Save. If not, close the feed by clicking X in the upper-top corner and edit the profile.

    Editing the DDA Profile

    To edit the DDA profile criteria:

    1. On the DDA Profile List page (Market > Manage Profiles and Rankings  > DDA Profiles), check an existing profile and select Edit. The profile opens. 

    2. Edit the profile as required. See Creating a DDA Profile for the details.

    3. Click Save to save your changes.

    Suppressing and Deleting DDA Profiles

    To pause adding new titles to a DDA pool, you can deactivate your profile so that offers are no longer added each week.  You can activate or deactivate at any time--at the weekly interval only activate profiles will be used to add titles to your DDA pool.

    You can also delete a DDA profile at any time.  Deleting a DDA profile does not remove titles from your DDA candidate pool.  If you are terminating a DDA program with a platform, reach out to ProQuest to clear your Rialto DDA pool of unowned materials.  Note that removing candidate records from Alma may also be required.

    To deactivate a DDA profile:
    • On the DDA Profile List page (Market > Manage Profiles and Rankings > DDA Profiles), check a profile and toggle the Active control off.
    To terminate a DDA profile:
    • On the DDA Profile List page (Market > Manage Profiles and Rankings > DDA Profiles), check a profile and select Remove
