Marketplace

Overview

The 2026 Rialto roadmap focuses on expanding marketplace reach, strengthening integration across Alma, and enabling more informed acquisition and fulfillment decisions. Planned enhancements include new content partnerships with Browns Books, VLeBooks, and Kortext, introducing both fully integrated and referral-based purchasing models to support a wider range of procurement and framework requirements.

Rialto will extend access to collection development tools across all Alma users, while new capabilities such as Informed Fulfillment Search and enriched subscriptions data support more strategic, cost-effective decision-making. Additional improvements streamline existing workflows, including continued support for print acquisition through referral models and a dedicated page for managing Ebook Central upgrades. Together, these enhancements reinforce Rialto’s role as a central hub for discovery, evaluation, and fulfillment across formats and institutions.

H1 2026 Enhancements

New Content  - Browns Print Books and VLeBooks

What's new Highlights Impact

Rialto will expand marketplace offerings for print and eBooks through a partnership with Browns Books.

  • Electronic content from Browns (VLeBooks) will be fully integrated into Rialto’s streamlined model, enabling seamless global ordering, invoicing, and fulfillment.

  • Later in the year, VLeBooks offerings will also be available for purchase through a Referral Model. This ensures that communities can access content via Rialto while meeting procurement and framework agreements that require the invoicing party to be the content provider.

  • Browns print books will be available for global discovery and purchase using the Referral Model.

Rialto customers will have access to Browns Books’ extensive range of print stock and over two million eBooks across all learning stages.

Print Referral Model

What's new Highlights Impact

To keep the marketplace robust for recommendations and selection, Rialto will retain print book discovery after June 2026, allowing order placement with selected third-party print vendors directly in the Rialto interface. Fulfillment and invoicing will be fully managed by the third party.

  • New configuration options available to support staff needs.

  • Print books, refinable by supplier, will remain available in the marketplace for search and automatic selection, with no interruption to current selector or approver workflows once a relationship has been established between the library and the third-party supplier.

  • When submitted, orders are sent via EDI to the third-party supplier.

  • Orders remain accessible from the Rialto Order History page for informational purposes.

  • Invoicing is handled by the print vendor. Rialto continues to close the POL and send configured notifications when the invoice is received.

Libraries using Rialto will continue to see the same metadata when deciding which format to acquire and will be able to place print book orders without leaving Rialto.

Rialto Expansion to all of Alma

What's new Highlights Impact

To better support workflows and strengthen the integration between Rialto and Alma, a streamlined version of Rialto will be launched for all Alma accounts. This provides all Alma users with the ability to search the marketplace and access limited features and functionality within Rialto.

  • A Collection Development menu available to all Alma users, including access to market search, curated topics, and new retention and deselection workflows.

  • Market search includes real-time calls to Alma for holdings, as well as calls to Rapido and CDI to identify fulfillment options via resource sharing or open access.

  • A configuration page available to administrators to customize the staff experience.

  • All users can email marketplace offers to other Alma users within their institution or perform page-level exports.

  • A new Search Only role available to existing Rialto customers.

Alma libraries, regardless of setup, gain access to collection-building tools within Rialto.

Informed Fulfillment Search

What's new Highlights Impact

A new search experience that goes beyond the marketplace to present all available fulfillment options—acquisition, resource sharing, and more—in one place, supporting strategic and well-informed decisions.

  • Holistic fulfillment strategy that moves beyond acquisition as the default option by presenting a full spectrum of fulfillment paths.

  • Actionable search results that support faster, more streamlined fulfillment decisions.

  • Significant cost savings and operational efficiency.

  • Users are empowered to choose the option that best fits their needs.

Ebook Central Upgrades Page

What's new Highlights Impact

A new page in Rialto for accessing the library’s upgrade-eligible Ebook Central titles.

  • Access to all upgrade-eligible titles from a single page.

  • Advanced search capabilities to identify specific titles based on defined criteria.

Libraries retain a concise workflow for upgrading owned Ebook Central titles in Rialto, even after June 30, 2026.

H2 Enhancements

New Content - Kortext

What's new Highlights Impact

Rialto will expand marketplace offerings for eBooks through a partnership with Kortext.

  • Over 2.5 million eBooks available for purchase on the Kortext platform through the Referral Model, enabling access via Rialto while meeting procurement and framework requirements where the content provider must invoice directly.

  • Supported access models include 1U, 3U, and Unlimited perpetual access.

Kortext entered the market with a focus on academic libraries and student textbook materials and has since expanded to include a broad range of academic content from leading publishers. This provides libraries with additional aggregation options aligned with collection development budgets.

Subscriptions Page Enrichment

What's new Highlights Impact

The Ebook Central Subscriptions page in Rialto will display all titles included in active collections and expose key data points to support collection evaluation.

  • Full title lists load on click from each collection name, with search-level filtering and sorting available.

  • Overlapping holdings are clearly indicated for both subscribed and unsubscribed collections.

  • Transparent display of annual title additions and removals.

  • COUNTER usage data displayed for each title in subscribed collections.

Libraries gain access to critical data needed to make better-informed acquisition and renewal decisions.
