Summon: ARTstor Images Require Browser Pop-Ups

    • Product: Summon

What internet browser requirements are needed to view ARTstor images?

An internet browser needs to allow pop-ups in order to view images in ARTstor.
Most browsers allow you to selectively allow pop-ups from individual web sites like ARTstor, including Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. However, there are some browsers -- like Safari -- that do not support selectively allowing pop-ups from particular sites.
ARTstor has told us that *.artstor.org and *.artstor.net are the relevant web sites for which you should allow browser pop-ups. Version-specific browser information regarding disabling pop-ups is available from ARTstor.
Institutions using EZproxy or III (Innovative) should also allow browser pop-ups from the URL listed below, where the portion in brackets ([PROXY] and [INSTITUTION.XXX]) are specific to your institution. This seems to resolve the problem of the browser tab with the pop-up link opening and closing rapidly. Pop-up exceptions must be configured before clicking on the link to the item.
    • EZproxy: artstor.org.[PROXY].lib.[INSTITUTION.XXX]
For example if your EZproxy URL is proxy.greenuniversity.edu, you would use the URL artstor.org.proxy.lib.greenuniversity.edu
    • III (Innovative): artstor.org.[PROXY].library.[INSTITUTION.XXX]
For example if your III proxy URL is lib.greenuniversity.edu, you would use the URL artstor.org.lib.library.greenuniversity.edu
For help finding the appropriate proxied URL, consult your IT team. We may be able to assist, particularly regarding Firefox: Use the Support Portal option to send us a request for help.
