360 KB: Title Identifiers in Title Metadata

    • Product: 360 KB

What are the title identifiers and how are they used?

ProQuest uses several metadata identifiers to identify titles in the 360 KB knowledgebase, in addition to the standardized identifiers (ISSN or ISBN). An individual title in a specific database can have several different Serials Solutions identifiers at the same time.

This table defines these identifiers and describes where they appear in Serials Solutions services:

Identification Definition Location in 360 Services Location in Intota
Serials Solutions ID (SSID) The SSID for a title is either the SSJ or the SSIB (see below). Client Center Home > Data Management > Holding Details page > Title Metadata (labeled "Serials Solutions ID"; however, if a title in a database does not have an SSJ, then the SSID will not appear in the Client Center.)

Management Reports (in column labeled "SSID")
    Title Details page

Management Reports (in column labeled "SSID")
    SSJ

    sometimes called "Authority-Level Title ID"
The SSJ is the identifier for normalized titles. Normalized titles are titles associated with an "authority title" in the 360 KB knowledgebase.

Many different combinations of titles and standardized identifiers (ISSN or ISBN) can be associated with a single SSJ, if -- in reality -- they are the same resource.

Management Reports (in column labeled "SSID")

Management Reports (in column labeled "SSID")
    SSIB

The SSIB is the identifier for a unique combination of a title and a standardized identifier (ISSN or ISBN). The SSIB of a title will change if either the title or the standardized identifier ever change, even in the slightest. Many different "holdings" (titles in different databases) can share the same SSIB.

Every holding in 360 KB -- that is, every individual title in each database -- has a unique, holding-level Title ID. In other words, this kind of Title ID identifies a title in relation to the databases that includes it. (The same title that appears in a different database will have a different holding-level Title ID.) Offline Date and Status Editor (ODSE) reports (in column labeled "Title ID")
