360 Core: Print ISSN vs. Online ISSN at the Provider Level

    • Product: 360 Core Client Center

Why does Serials Solutions use the print ISSN instead of the online ISSN at the provider level?

Oftentimes, providers give us a single, format-neutral column for the ISSNs in their title lists. This column might include print ISSNs, online ISSNs, or a mix of each. Or, some providers might give us a column for print ISSNs and a different column for online ISSNs.
We only have one field specifically for ISSNs at the vendor (provider) level in 360 KB; so if given both ISSNs, we will use the print ISSN.
In general, print ISSNs are greater in number, and it is not unusual for a provider to use the print ISSN for both formats. The ISSNs are then differentiated by format in our authority data at the authority journal level.
You can see which ISSNs are available (print and/or online) for a given publication on the Title metadata page in the e-Catalog section of the Client Center.
