360 Link: IEEE Proceedings Link Issues

    • Product: 360 Link

When our patrons try to view IEEE proceedings, why are they only able to see a specific e-book volume and not a more generic journal collection of the proceedings?

Because of the way IEEE has categorized databases of proceedings, some 360 Link clients have discovered slightly different linking behavior when their library is subscribed to both kinds of IEEE proceedings databases in the Client Center's Data Management system: as journals, and as e-books.
Databases of IEEE proceedings categorized as journals include the following:
    • IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL)
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan (POP) 1998-present
    • IEEE Enterprise
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan All Online (POP All Online) 1998-present
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan (POP) 2005-present
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan All Online (POP All Online) 2005-present
Databases of IEEE proceedings categorized as e-books include the following:
    • IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) Proceedings By Volume
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan (POP) 1998-present by volume
    • IEEE Enterprise Proceedings By Volume
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan All Online (POP All Online) 1998-present by volume
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan (POP) 2005-present by volume
    • IEEE Proceedings Order Plan All Online (POP All Online) 2005-present by volume
If your library subscribes to at least one database in the first (journals) group and at least one database in the second (e-books) group, and the OpenURL query contains a DOI, 360 Link will not attempt to match on a title to its more general Conference/Proceeding title in the journals database but will try to match on the title in the e-books database, which is an improvement of past behavior.
If your library subscribes to the appropriate e-book title in the e-books database, you will get links to content in that database. If you are not subscribed to the appropriate e-book title, you may be greeted with a No Holdings Found message -- even if you're subscribed to that title in a journals database.
Therefore, when subscribing to any IEEE e-books databases, be sure to subscribe to all titles to which you would like to provide access.
