Why do I get a friendly error when trying to add a holding to a large collection?

Symptoms
When you try to add an item to a collection that contains more than 400 objects, you will see the friendly error screen (example below).

Attempt to add a holding to a collection that contains more than 400 objects and receive a friendly error.
Workaround
Create collections that contain 400 or less objects.
