X SERVICE: ILL-BOR-AUTH errors if verification/user ID has both & and dot

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 19.01

    Description:
    Problem Description:

X SERVICE: ILL-BOR-AUTH does not work when verification and user ID contain both ampersand and dot. If only one is present, it works, if both are present, error message is generated.

    Actual Results:
    Error in Verification is received

    Expected Results:
Should authenticate the user with ampersand and dot in user ID and verification

    Resolution:
The problem here is not the combination of the characters "@" and ".". The problem is the length of the verification. In the example - fname@site.edu, the verification is too long for the encryption. Although the string is shorter than 20 characters, the encryption of this string that includes the "@" and "." is more than 20 bytes long and this is why it fails.

    Instead of the example :
    http://il-aleph02:8994/X?op=ill-bor-auth&library=usm50&bor_id=fname@site.edu&verification=fname@site.edu

    we tried :
    http://il-aleph02:8994/X?op=ill-bor-auth&library=usm50&bor_id=Y@E.E&verification=Y@E.E

which was successful as the string is short. This is system limitation which cannot be changed.
