    Description:
I sent a file of our Authorities to Marcive. They cannot match our records to theirs in the 010 because the standard requires two spaces prior to the number.
    EX -- 010__ $$an 123456789

In this example there are two spaces. However, in Aleph version 18, only one displays and we are unable to add another manually. Is there a constraint on the length of the 010 in Aleph? If I force two spaces in the 010, will it truncate the end number?

    Resolution:
ALEPH doesn't permit consecutive blanks in doc records. In such cases you need to use the tab100 DOC-BLANK-CHAR instead. For MARC21 sites, this is the caret sign ( ^ ):

    010 $$an^^123456789

Note: You need to use fix_doc_space_char in order to make the DOC-BLANK-CHAR in variable fields be changed to a space on export. See KB 8192-8199 for detailed info on this.
