Call slips are not produced when multiple copies are available.

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
Two available copies are on shelf. If you place a hold request on the first copy, a call slip is automatically printed in the task manager for the requested copy. When a second hold request is placed on the same copy, a hold wait letter is printed to this second patron, suggesting him to wait until this copy will be available or to delete his request, and the system doesn’t roll this second request to the second like copy that is still available.

    Resolution:
This is a known problem. The ue_06 (that creates the call slips) is not functioning as a "balancer". If a patron places a hold request on the same item that already has one and there is another "free" like item, the ue_06 does not take it into account. To change the way ue_06 works will require a serious change that cannot be handled through closed Aleph versions. Ex Libris will consider this for future development versions.

From issue resolution: Closed by support with the following note:

Hello. This SI has been in status "development pending" for two years now. We have again met with our development and product management teams and see no way to make a change in the programs regarding your specific request.
Therefore, we would like to close the SI. If you have an objection, please let us know. However, as previouswly stated here and also in 2009, the program design does not allow for such a change |(and also would pose a hiogh risk for regression in other workflows). Thank you for your understanding.
