    Changing Audio Warnings

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
    Our circulation folks are asking for different sounds for different circulation warnings so that people aren't as apt to ignore the more serious warnings. In researching this I've found that section 23 of the Version 18.01 Systems Librarians Guide states that you can use Windows sound files. Option 3 states: "The sound file should be placed in the Alephcom\Sound directory."

    We do not have an Alephcom\Sound directory. Is that a folder that can be created and passed along to other machines using the Version Check?

    Resolution:
    Yes, you can create an Alephcom\Sound directory, place the sound file in the directory, place the directory/file on the server, and then distribute them via version check.

    But, as described in KB 8192-2135, a sound file needs to be placed in the ..\alephcom\sound directory only when a downloaded or locally created sound is being used (8192-2135, 2c).

    If a default Windows sound is being specified (8192-2135, 2b), then you simply specify the soundname in the [ErrorAction] section of circ.ini: no need for any file; Windows already has the sound.

    For instance, you might specify this in circ.ini:

    [ErrorAction]
    ...
    LoanError=Y,S,question
    ...
    LoanSuccess=Y,S,OK
    ...
    ReturnSuccess=Y,S,asterisk
