    Desired Outcome Goal:
    Define the right value for shmmax kernel parameter

    Procedure:
    1. For SHMMAX parameter on 64-bit (x86-64) Linux system, Oracle Global Customer Support officially recommends a "maximum" of "1/2 of physical RAM".

    2. Check the kernel value actually in use with
    /sbin/sysctl -A | grep shm

    3. Check the physical ram memory with
    cat /proc/meminfo
