ILL2 not recognizing proper record format when searching a z39.50 target

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
When we search z39.50 targetsin Web ILL and find serial records and then click on the ILL button the system captures the record data and places it into a serial ILL workform. This same search in version 18 and ILL2 using the same target record results in the captured data being placed into a monograph workform. ILL2 appears to be relying on an FMT tag for the type of request, but z39.50 records do not have a FMT tag. ILL2 should be using the LDR to determine record type.

    Resolution:
This is a configuration problem. Following should be added:

    1. Add to the configuration file of the target external base (for example loc.conf for the Library of congress) located under the $alephe_root/gate a line in order to call up a fix routine as in the following example:

    Z58-IN-RECORD-FIX LOC

    2. In the tab_fix table of the ext library (for example in our demo this would be ext01) the following fix program which add the FMT to records:

    LOC fix_doc_create_fmt

Note that in the guide it is clearly explained (cataloging sys chapter):

    fix_doc_create_fmt
This program, according to the definitions of the LDR field, adds the FMT field with the record format (for example, BK for books). The program can be used to add the FMT field to records imported through the Z39.50 server that do not have the FMT field. If the field is present, the program does nothing.

    3. Restart z39_server.
