    In ARC startup: "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23

    Problem Symptoms:

    The following error messages appear in trying to start ARC:

    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    SP2-0751: Unable to connect to Oracle.

    and ARC does not start.

    Cause:
    The Oracle parameter audit_syslog_level was set as follows:

    ALTER SYSTEM SET audit_syslog_level='NONE' SCOPE=SPFILE;

    The value NONE is illegal. The values of the parameter audit_syslog_level need to match one of the allowed facilities or warning levels of the operating system service syslog, e.g., "AUDIT_SYSLOG_LEVEL=local1.warning"

    Resolution:

    Correct AUDIT_SYSLOG_LEVEL to a legitimate value.

    Additional Information

    Article How do we turn off (Oracle) system auditing in Aleph 20? advises to change the value of the database initialization parameter audit_trail from DB to NONE.

    Probably the AUDIT_SYSLOG_LEVEL parameter was confused with the audit_trail parameter.
