    Question

    Is the z35 (Events) table written to by GUI searches? The tab_events.LNG header and the z35.pdf document don't indicate this.

    Answer

    Yes, the z35 is written to by GUI searches.

    Additional Information

    The header of tab_events.LNG and the z35.pdf document have failed to indicate the role of the z35 in GUI searching.

    v21 rep_change 2077 changes the tab_events.LNG header from:

    ! ... The transactions in the
    ! bibliographic library relate to Web OPAC and to Z69 requests.
    ! Types 20-32 are written in Z69. Types 10-12 and 40 are written in Z35.
    <etc.>

    To:
    ! ... The transactions in the
    ! bibliographic library relate to search requests.
    ! Types 10-12 and 40 are written in Z35 for both Web and GUI searches.
    ! Types 20-32 are written in Z69 for Web searches (including z39) only.
    <etc.>

    And the z35.pdf from:

    For OPAC events:
    10 = Search done
    11 = Search above the maximum hit limit
    12 = Empty search

    To:

    For Web and GUI search events:
    10 = Search done
    11 = Search above the maximum hit limit
    12 = Empty search

    Since there is no way to write GUI z35s without also writing Web z35s, and since the Web z35s can quickly grow, if the z35 is being used for bib library statistics, the contents of the table should be processed regularly and recreated using util a/17/1.

    It is important to make certain that the util a/17/1 is done in the *bib* library. **The ADM z35 is needed for Circulation statistics.**

    A site which does not need or want GUI search statistics may drop the bib z35. also article "How to drop an Oracle table"

    Note: if the bib z35 is dropped, column 2 ("Activate") in the 10, 11, 12, and 40 lines of xxx01 tab_events.LNG needs to be changed to "N".
