    Lock periods in pc_server defaults

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 19.01

    Description:
    How are the default_lock_period, doc_lock_period, and file_lock_period in pc_server_defaults (util j/5) different?

    Will editing a record "renew" the lock?

    Resolution:
    As described in the System Librarian Guide and the ALEPH Configuration Guide,

    * a doc_lock_period is for *doc* records (bib, adm, hol, authority, course reserve, ILL);
    * a default_lock_period is for all other records; and
    * a file_lock_period "defines the lock period of files (tables) edited through alephadm".

    All are defined in seconds.

    Editing the record on your PC does *not* affect the lock. The server doesn't know anything about the editing you are doing. If you save the record to the server and then retrieve it again, that will start a new lock period.
