    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Question

When working with NCIP as self-check machine are the following requirements filled?

    (1) On request for patron status, the system should respond with expiration date for user in a particular sublibrary.
    (2) On request for checkout, the system should respond with expiration date if loan is denied.

    Answer

Unfortunately the NCIP protocol implementation in Aleph does not support the desired features and is not able to present the patron’s expiration date.

In general the NCIP server in Aleph is mostly used for other purposes than self-check machines (e.g. consortial borrowing in USA) and the implementation of this protocol in Aleph mainly supports functionalities required for these cases but may not cover all elements required for self-check machines.
