    OAI provider gives only part of set or no / slow responses

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Problem Symptoms:
    Using OAI provider (URL syntax http://<server>/OAI-script?verb=ListRecords&...):
    * Not all expected records are included
    * Response is very slow
    * No response at all

    Cause:
    "Old" OAI provider.

    Resolution:
    Implement "new "Publishing Based OAI Data Provider.pdf  and use this provider instead of the "old" one.

    Additional Information:
    For explanation - in Aleph two OAI provider exist:

    1) "Old" OAI provider (URL syntax http://<server>/OAI-script?verb=ListRecords&... )  If a customer has used this provider all the time and is happy with the results, it is fine.

    2) "New" Publishing-Based OAI Data Provider (URL syntax http://<server>/OAI?verb=ListRecords&... ) was implemented:   Publishing Based OAI Data Provider.pdf .  It has much better performance and more stable.

    The "old" OAI provider exists still in the programs for backward compatibility. It is using Z13 "on the fly"; therefore it is very slow and sometimes doesn't even response when you have large number of documents.

    We strongly recommend the use of the publishing-based OAI provider.
