    Description:
I want to clarify one additional point about using the Oracle Datapump to move our data between versions.

Right now, we have a matching number of Oracle TABLESPACES between our version 18 database and our new version 20. However, the number of Oracle DATAFILES is of course significantly smaller.

My question is: will the Oracle Datapump automatically add the new necessary DATAFILES when we import the data export from version 18, or do we need to create these new DATAFILES manually before we do the import?

    Resolution:
When you are using the Datapump, you need to create tablespaces with the same names and sizes as those of the Oracle instance you are copying from. You do *not* need to create the users, tables, etc. The Datapump will do that. The datafiles do not need to be the same size.... (In this regard I would note that the default datafile size in Oracle 11 is twice that of Oracle 10.)

Note: If you are Cloning the database, you don't need to define the tablespaces in advance (-- just, perhaps, the ts0 and ts1 which you might do as a test).
