Patron not allowed to place hold on material already on loan

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph

    Problem Symptoms:
Patrons are not allowed to place holds on items they currently have on loan (that is, the Hold button is not present when viewing such items in PRIMO).

    Cause:
There are two Aleph settings which may affect this:

    1. the z305 (Local Patron record) Z305-MULTI-HOLD=Y permission ("Determines whether or not the patron may place more than one hold request for the same item"); to make this setting be in effect in Primo,
    HL-GRP check_hold_request_f and
    HL-GRP-PRE check_hold_request_f
must be specified in the Aleph xxx50 tab_hold_request

    2. check_hold_request_m ("patron has item on loan and is attempting to request a like copy") in the xxx50 tab_hold_request ; in this case,
    HL-GRP check_hold_request_m and
    HL-GRP-PRE check_hold_request_m
need to be removed or commented out.

    Resolution:
    None yet; still being tested.

    Additional Information

Sometimes patrons need to check out multiple copies of the same item or place holds on the same item to get extra copies for a book club or such.
