Preserving diacritics when saving an excel file as a csv

Description:
When I try to save an excel file as a csv file, I am losing all of my diacritics, I guess that it must be a character set problem, any ideas where I should look to correct this, so that the csv version of the file retains all of my diacritics?

Resolution:
The solution was to save it using Open Office, which allows the choice of the character set when saving and choosing UTF-8.
