    SIP2 Server Account Information

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
    How can I determine the username and password that can be used in conjunction with our SIP server? We would like to use it with a third party E-book vendor (Overdrive) that one of our member institutions has licensed content from.

    Overdrive wants to use our patron barcodes in conjunction with the SIP server to authenticate users. They've advised me that work successfully with a number of Aleph sites already. We currently use SIP to authenticate users to a number of proxy servers.

    The documentation on the SIP server doesn't seem to cover how to access this information or create new username/passwords for other clients that may want to authenticate against it.

    This is what the sip2_server log entry looks like:

    <SC request>
    <command>23</command>
    <header>00120100415 083446</header>
    <AO>EZproxy</AO>
    <AA>22789009123456</AA>
    <AC>selfc1</AC>
    <AY>1AZEF50</AY>
    </SC request>

    Resolution:
    The sip2 type 23 fields AO ("EZproxy") and AC ("selfc1") are not validated by Aleph. They are informational only. We suggest that you have the vendor use:

    <AO>Overdrive</AO> and <AC>selfc1</AC>
