Single bib, multi-adm: where to run p_cir_25

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
We are testing configuration for a single-bib, multi-adm Aleph architecture, moving from 11 separate instances. I have am working on the patron setup. Currently we have User Sharing = N, and merged the z303, z304 and z308 into our usr_library (ABC50). The z305s remain in their individual ADMs (XYZ50, QRS50, and JKL50). I have added in the appropriate ADM code in the z303_user_library and z308_rec_key positions 23-27, and rebuilt the z353.

My understanding is that the z353 needs to be built in each ADM. I began with our usr_library (ABC50) with Delete All = Y, and then ran p_cir_25 in each of the other ADMs with Delete All = N. Should p_cir_25 be run in the usr_library ABC50, or just in the local ADMs?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that z303_user_library and z308_rec_key,23,27 have had the ADM codes added, I'm noticing z353 is taking about twice as long to run in each subsequent ADM. Are a full set of z353 records, for all ADMs, being built in each?

    Resolution:
As noted in KB 16384-19810 ("How to run p_cir_25 at a multi-ADM site"), you don't want to run p_cir_25 in the $usr_library. You run it in each ADM library. Though the z353 exists only in the ABC50 $usr_library, the p_cir_25's are run only in the ADM libraries: the ADM-library jobs write to the $usr_library z353.

p_cir_25 takes longer to run in each subsequent ADM because each run backs up/restores all of the existing z353's.

    See KB 16384-19810 for more.
