Sort items from the latest year before items with no year

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 14.2

    Description:
The Web OPAC brief list displays in reverse chronological order but that records with no year (carets in year) are sorting before records with the latest years. We would expect "nothing" to sort before "something" in normal order, so in a reverse chronological sort we would expect items without years to be at the end of the list. Can we configure the system to do this?

    Resolution:
Column 4 of the tab_sort entry for a fixed field (such as the 008 year) should be set to "N" to indicate to the program that non-alphanumeric values should sort to the end. (Note: actually what it does is not produce any z101 at all; the Brief List program puts such records at the end of the display.)

After making this change to tab_sort you need to run p_manage_27 to regenerate the z101 sort records to make it take effect.
