Question
The text "Effective due date" sometimes appears in the GUI Circ "Due Date" column, preceding the date -- and sometimes doesn't. Where does this text come from and why does it sometimes appear and sometimes not?
Answer
The text "Effective due date" -- which may also appear in the cir-13 ("Recall Items on Loan") notices and in the OPAC -- is coming from the ./error_eng/format_due_date file. This could be the ./u21_n/alephe/error_eng/format_due_date file; or, if none, the ./a21_n/alephe/error_eng/format_due_date file.
Two factors determine which format_due_date message appears:
1. whether the item is recalled, and
2. the value of $alephe_root/aleph_start due_date_format
If the due_date_format is "1",
the format_due_date message which appears for a non-recalled item is 0001 and
the message for a recalled item is 0101.
If the due_date_format is "2",
the format_due_date message which appears for a non-recalled item is 0002 and
the message for a recalled item is 0102.
Likewise for "3" and "4".
If the site doesn't do recalls {that is, the z37 (hold request) recall-type is always "3" (hold)}, then format_due_date message 0101 can and should be changed to:
0101 0000 L $1
