Titles with L' sort incorrectly in the Results List; rebuilding z101 Sort keys

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
Titles with an apostrophe in the non-filing indicators are not sorting correctly in the results list. For example, if you do an author browse for Derrida, Jacques and sort by title, there are the following errors:

    1) two editions of L'ecriture et la difference [diacritics not shown]
missort between "Criticism in society" and D'ailleurs, Derrida."

    2) L'animal que donc je suis
    L'universite sans condition
missort between "Negotiations" and "Of grammatology."

    3) L'autre cap
missorts between "Ulysse gramophone" and "Veils."

These titles are sorting on the 4th character, instead of the 3rd (as if the apostrophe is not counted with the non-filing characters). As far as I've seen, this affects the sorting within the results list only. The same titles appear correctly in a title browse search.

    1. On August 8 in abc01/tab/tab_filing, I updated procedure 99 so that the non-filing fix would occur prior to the compress fix. This may have corrected the problem, and explain the difference between the new records and the existing records. However, even though I restarted both PC and Web servers, the fix did not work at the time. Is there something else I should have done (which may have happened in the meantime) to make the fix take effect?

    2. Is there anyway to fix existing records, other than manually resaving individual bibs?

    Resolution:
The title sort is determined by the z101 sort_key 03:

L'Ecriture et la difference is abc01 bib 000594762. The abc01 z101 for the sort 03 field (the title) is:

    01 z101_sort \
    02 z101_rec_key \
    03 doc_number ...000594762
    03 sort_key .....03
    02 z101_data \
    03 alpha ........L
03 text .........CRITURE ET LA DIFFERENCE

    Similarly:

    02 z101_rec_key \
    03 doc_number ...002224112
    03 sort_key .....03
    02 z101_data \
    03 alpha ........L
03 text .........UTRE CAP SUIVI DE LA

The ./com/create_z101 program, which builds the z101 Brief List Sort records, calls the ./filing/filing.cbl which reads tab_filing. The tab_filing header shows: "99 - Default for sort keys (Z101)"

I have confirmed that re-sending the records to the server has generated a correct z101 type 03 sort key.

p_manage_27 can be run to rebuild all of the z101's.
