Toggling between Item tab and record tab in the Catalog module

    Description:
In v.18, staff noticed that when they searched and pulled up the bibliographic record in the editable view in the Catalog module (record tab) and then subsequently used the F8 function to move to the Items tab that what happened was a toggle instead of a "push". By "push", I mean that they expected for the Items List of the displayed bib record to appear but instead what appears is either an empty Items tab or a previously displayed Item List not associated with the record in the Records tab. I believe this is how the program was coded to work (that is, toggle instead of "push"). Could Ex Libris confirm that eventhough a bib is being displayed in the Record tab that using F8 or clicking on the Items tab will be a simple toggle?

When I explained that this is most likely how the program works staff raised a valid point that in cases where an item has already been displayed in the Items tab it is very easy for staff toggling from the record tab of a displayed bib to think that the Item List is connected to that bib. It seems very likely that attaching Items erroneously to the wrong title can happen.

Please verify that the behavior of the client as explained above is how it is intended to work.

    Resolution:
2nd line support has reviewed this question. They replicated the behavior you described and said that the shortcut key (F8) was "working normally". They added:

"...you need to take the record with you, the function key just moves you
(switches) from screen to screen it is not reading the record itself, to take
the item, you need to double click the item from the record manager pane"

So, they not only feel that the system is working as intended, but feel that any other behavior would be counter to the description of the shortcut ("Switch to Items Tab").
