Unable to print from Circulation client

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
One of our circulation staff has a new PC, but whenever she tries to print anything from the circulation client (e.g. borrower summary letter, hold request letter etc.) the error message "XML/XSL parse error" is displayed. She is using the same version of the client as everybody else, and nobody else has this problem.

I did have to change the Saxon setting in alephcom.ini, because I was initially getting the error message "Unable to run Saxon". Once I had changed the setting, I then got the XML/XSL parse error.

    Can you suggest a solution?

    Resolution:
The issue may be with the Java version (or absence of it) on the PC.

Check the alephcom.ini setting on the PC regarding the Saxon entry. It is either saxon.exe or saxon7.jar. Normally saxon.exe should be the default setting. However, if this is already set, you may want to change it to the other setting and see if that makes a difference.

Using the Saxon.exe utility requires Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.
Using the Saxon7.jar utility requires Sun Java Virtual Machine version 1.4 or later.

See the "How to Install a Java Virtual Machine on a PC" on the Ex Libris Documentation Center under /How To/Printing/ for complete details.

Another thing to try is emptying files from the alephcom\files\xxx50\printtemplate\eng and logging on and off again to re-populate from the server (or transferring from a PC that does work).

This particular case was a problem with the java version. Customer followed the documentation re installation of java version and this corrected the problem.
