Upgrade Express runs out of undo space in updating bib z35; need for bib z35

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Description:
We are using the upgrade kit to upgrade from Aleph version 20 to version 21. We are at the point where we started the Oracle updates, and we get an ORA err on Step 1010 (first one) when it is working on updating the sys01.z35 table. It runs out of undo tablespace. We have 12G allocated to the undo tablespace. This table has nearly 200 million rows.

Apparently, the update script does not do any intermediate commits and is trying to process the entire table. We get another error later on with the same table. Other than adding a huge amount of undo datafiles to get through the Oracle updates, do you have any suggestions how what could be done?

    Resolution:
As noted in KB 8192-2055, Aleph no longer needs the bib library z35 for Web OPAC search statistics. Since version 16.02 it has been supplanted by the z69 table for your own local use in producing OPAC statistics.

Note: You definitely *do* need the ADM/xxx50 z35, which is used to produce circulation statistics.

As described in KB 16384-48353, GUI search events are recorded in the z35 but not in the z69. If you want to produce statistics on GUI searches, you will need to keep the bib z35.

We recommend that Aleph customers run any scripts you have for processing the bib library z35 and then drop/recreate it (with util a/17/1) prior to running Upgrade Express 20-21. Or use SQL to reduce its size by deleting older events.

    You have two choices:

    1.    If you are producing or plan to produce statistics on GUI searching from the abc01 z35 table, then you need to produce these statistics periodically and then delete the older z35’s.

    2.    If you are not producing and do not plan to produce statistics on GUI searching from the abc01 z35 table, then you can:
    s+ abc01
    .    SQL> drop table z35
Delete the z35 lines from the bib abc01 $data_root/file_list
    .    In the abc01 tab_events.eng, change the “Y” in column two for events 10, 11, and 12 to “N”.
