    Description:
Receiving Doc Validation Error in v20: "Illegal quantity in subfield w" for 85X fields in holdings record -- validation error can be overridden. There is nothing in the NYU60/tab/check_doc_line_contents table.

Where is this check and message coming from?

    Resolution:
This message is coming from the check_doc_853x program in ./xxx60/tab/check_doc.

The check_doc_853x check program is explained in the System Librarian's Guide - Cataloging, p.75.

    [Then the customer asked:]

    1. In the Doc Center the Sys Lib guide for ver 20 has only two (2) pages. Can you get that fixed?

    2. In the individual chapters, cataloging, section 28.2, p. 84 refers to mandatory MARC21 field checks and dependencies, but nothing about content for the 85X. Where is the information being used by "check_doc_853x "?

    3. Is it possible to modify whatever check_doc_853x is using?

    We replied:

    1) The problem on the Doc Portal has been corrected; the full System Librarian's Guide for v20 is now accessible.

    2) The field 853X is explained in the User Guide - Serials, since this is the field for Summary Holdings.

    3) It is not possible to change the algorithm in the check_doc_853x program. But it is possible to add a check_doc_line definition if needed.
