    Description:
A search on "acts" retrieves BIB records which, looking at "MARC Tags", do not contain the word "acts".   Why is that?

    Resolution:
We know of 2 possible causes for this behavior:

    1) Is there a "WORD expand_doc_bib_accref" line in tab_expand? The expand_doc_bib_accref (or expand_doc_bib_accref_1) causes all the words from the headings which are cross-references (non-preferred headings) for the heading fields in the doc record to be indexed as though they were in the record. This means that users retrieve records which don't contain the term(s) they searched on. (In this case, "Acts of Pilate" is a non-preferred form for "Gospel of Nicodemus" and, therefore, records with the 650 "Gospel of Nicodemus" will also include the words "Acts of Pilate" -- and searches on the word "acts" will retrieve these records.)
You can use UTIL-F-1-28 ("Display Word Indexing for a Single Record") to diagnose this. The words added by expand_doc_bib_accref are included in this display (at the end).

    2) Though a word is deleted from the record, the system sometimes fails to delete the text from the Words index. There are changes in version 22 to help address this.  See article "Deleted index entries remain, new entries are not added (non searchable)" .

You can try resending the record to the server. That may cause it to be correctly indexed in some cases.
