What is the difference between html help and old help?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
What is the difference between html help and old help? Why would I want one or the other?

    Resolution:
NOTE: If you see a help.chm file in C:\AL500\ALEPHCOM\BIN, ignore it. This is the help for HTMLPrint and is unrelated to the new ALEPH HTMLHelp feature.

The New help [alephcom/tab/alephcom.ini[Help]HTMLHelp=Y] is a vast improvement over the old help (see attachments for screen captures of old and new help).

    Advantages of using html help:

File size smaller than plain HTML
Range of formatting options that HTML gives for text presentation
Ability to search the full text
Ability to assemble several CHM files into one file with common TOC, index and search (see MSDN)
Ability to Generate TOC and Topic Folders containing International Characters standard
