    Question

    When is the loan-recall-2 form used vs. loan-recall-1 (or loan-recall-3)?

    Answer

    The loan-recall can have two numbers following it. The second is the notice number (first, second, third,etc.)

    The first number is the "letter type". This is set in the ./util/b_cir_13_b program. If the recall has changed the due date, the SW-LETTER-TYPE is set to "1" and the loan-overdue-1-nn form is used.

    If the recall has not changed the due-date, the SW-LETTER-TYPE is set to "2" and the loan-overdue-2-nn form is used.

    The System Librarian's Guide reads (should read):
    “Recall Letters/Notice
    “Running the Recall Items on Loan (cir-13) service will generate recall letters for patrons, asking them to return the recalled items. The letters will use one of the following files in the library’s form_lng directory:

    • loan-recall-1-nn: tells the patron he must return the item before the original due date. If he is late, he can be fined at a higher rate for returning a recalled item late. This is according to the library’s policy and the setup in tab16 and tab18.lng

    • loan-recall-2-nn: tells the patron that the item has been recalled but he can keep it until the original due date. If he is late, he will be fined as follows: first at the regular overdue rate (since the item was returned after its original due date), and later at the higher “recall overdue” rate (since the item was returned after its recall due date). An extra “recall overdue” charge is optional, and is set in tab16, column 14.

    “Cancelling a Recall
    “In order to identify which requests have been deleted, run Recall Items on Loan (cir-13) service. For the Reset Due Date Loans of Cancelled Requests field, choose “Yes”. The system will print Recall Cancellation letters to patrons, informing them that they no longer need to return the item early because it is no longer being recalled. The template used for these letters is loan-recall-3-nn in the library’s form_lng directory. The due date of a cancelled recall will revert to the due date before the recall. See Due Date for Recalled Item below. “

    In other words, #1 is the form used when the due date is change, #2 is used when the due date is not changed.

    Example:

    ..
    <z36-due-date>01/06/2013</z36-due-date>
    <z36-due-hour>23:59</z36-due-hour>
    ..
    <z36-recall-date>21/05/2013</z36-recall-date>
    <z36-recall-due-date>17/08/2013</z36-recall-due-date>
    ..

    --> z36-due-date = 01/06/2013 and z36-recall-due-date = 17/08/2013
    --> z36-recall-due-date is after z36-due-date
    --> As a result, the system uses loan-recall-2-nn.

    If the z36-recall-due-date is *before* z36-due-date and tab100 RECALL-METHOD=2 (like in your xxx50), then the system writes the Z36-RECALL-DUE-DATE to Z36-DUE-DATE and uses loan-recall-1-nn.
