    Description

When a patron claims that an item has been returned, where is the date that this claim occurred recorded?  Does the cir-50 Service use this as its "Last letter date"?

    Resolution

The claiming of an item as returned changes the z36 (loan record) status to "C" and is recorded as an event type 66 in the z35 event record and an action type 18 in the z309 (Circ logger) record (with the event date in each case).  But the claimed-returned date is not stored in the z30 or z36 records, and cir-50 does not use the claimed returned date in its processing.  Thus, the "Minimum Number of Days Since Last Letter" in the cir-50 submission is, in the case of a claimed-returned item, the number of days since the due-date.
