Question

How does expand_doc_bib_avail_hol (new with versions 22.1.2 / 23.0) differ from the regular expand_doc_bib_avail?

Answer

22.1 rep_change 002189 (v23 rep_ver 20062):  "adds the availability information (AVA field) to the bibliographic record, based on the HOLdings record. The items linked to the BIB record with no HOL linkage, and the items that are in a temporary location, will then create additional AVA records, de-duplicated by sub-library + collection."
As can be seen in the Additional Information examples below, expand_doc_bib_avail_hol produces an AVA field for every HOL record, appending the $$7 HOL library / record number to each.  The regular expand_doc_bib_avail expand produces a separate AVA field for each distinct sublibrary, and, if COLLECTION=Y is specified, each distinct sublibrary/collection combination.  (Note:  the COLLECTION=Y is not used -- or needed -- with the expand_doc_bib_avail_hol because each sublibrary/collection will have its own separate HOL record.)

To compare the two expands in util f/4 for your library, add the following lines to the xxx01 tab_expand:

U39-DOC    expand_doc_bib_avail
U39-DOC    expand_doc_bib_avail_hol

Then do util f/4 for relevant bib records.

In addition, A new filter is added to retrieve the items list by Collection.  The API-DLF-Items List has been enhanced to get items list filtered by HOL record, and the HOL record linked to items will be displayed in the item brief view.  The new filter will be applied in the Items List service only when a sub-library filter exists ('sublibrary' filter or 'sublibs' filter with one sub-library).
 (22.1 rep_change 002144 / v23 rep_ver 020010).  See example below.
