    Question

xxx01/tab/expand_doc_bib_z30 table was configured to include item's call number in subfield "9". However, subfield 9 is not created, and all call numbers still appear in subfield h.

    Answer

The call number in the Item (Z30) record starts with dollar signs:

    02 z30_call_no .................$$hML 1727.9 V4 B43 1981

This results in expanded field Z30-1 "$$9$$hML 1727.9 V4 B43 1981", where $$9 looks like an empty subfield. Aleph feature is to strip empty subfields. There is no work-around for this.
