p_print_03 takes much longer than it should for one particular ADM

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
p_print_03 runs much longer for our ABC50 ADM than it should. We have other ADMs, with a comparable number up records, that we export through print-03; they take roughly 2 hours to complete, but ABC50 takes 7+ hours. I have been unable to find a reason for this.

    Resolution:
I suspect that the fix ("AQUA") or expand ("AQUA-LC") routines are taking longer for ABC than for DEF.

As a test, please run p_print_03 with the same input files (abcret and defret) but with no fix_routine or expand_routine specified.

If you find the run times in this case are similar, then do another run with the expand_routine specified but no fix_routine.

If you find the run times are still similar, then do a run with the fix_routine but no expand_routine.

There are four routines specified in the AQUA-LC tab_expand:

    AQUA-LC expand_doc_bib_z30
    AQUA-LC expand_doc_bib_loc_usm
    AQUA-LC fix_doc_do_file_08 aqua_099_lc.fix
    AQUA-LC fix_doc_do_file_08 set_ldr_9_a

I doubt that "fix_doc_do_file_08 set_ldr_9_a" is taking longer for ABC records than DEF: since every record has an LDR field, each record would receive this same processing.

I suspect that the expand_doc_bib_z30 is taking longer for ABC. Since expand_doc_bib_z30 is getting only the call number and since expand_doc_bib_loc_usm is also getting the call number, the former is unnecessary.

[From site:] Removing the expand_doc_bib_z30 fixed the problem. ABC now takes just over an hour to export.
