print-03 "Error: output buffer exceeds 000002000. Output trancated."

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Description:
When running print-03 I sometimes see the following error in the log:

Error: output buffer exceeds 000002000. Output trancated.

The output file looks ok from what I can tell. What causes this error?

    Resolution:
The error message "output buffer exceeds nnnnn. Output trancated" is produced by the UTF_TO_MARC8 program or by MARC8-TO-UTF.
It seems that the field's length is normally 2000 -- which is the Aleph maximum field length.

It seems that what is happening is that, in converting an (Aleph unicode) field which is less than 2000 bytes, to MARC8 format, the length of the converted field exceeds 2000 bytes. Then the MARC-8 field may be truncated.
