    searching by SISAC barcode.

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
We have donwloaded and installed the latest released service pack for version 20 including the rep_change #3500 which allows searching by SISAC Barcode.
We are trying to test this fix, but we are unable to get this to work. Perhaps we are not working with a valid SISAC barcode? The error we are getting is “empty ISSN set”.
We are entering the following SISAC barcode: 0363-0277(2011/04)136:7;1-,

    Resolution:
We found that even after rep_change #3500, it is possible to search by SISAC Barcode only without the hyphen in the ISSN part. For example:
    This search fails:
    0363-0277(2011/04)136:7;1-,

    This search is successful:
    03630277(2011/04)136:7;1-,

    * The SISAC (Serials Industry Systems Advisory Committee) barcode symbol uses Code 128 to uniquely identify each issue of a serial publication using the ISSN, date of publication, and volume or issue number.
** SISAC Barcode structure: ISSN (year/issue) volume: part; pages,
This issue is still open and was escalated to Second line support for further analysis <2011-10-16 01:00:02>.
This issue is still open and was escalated to Development for further investigation <2011-11-06 01:00:03>.

    Resolution:
the correct structure of SISAC Barcode should not include any spaces or punctuation, only a string of letters and numbers.

These are the examples of correct SISAC Barcodes:

    123456799331985117169912312510
    0021843X920198511723110712312ab221
    87562324954198634010

And these examples work for the Sisac Barcode search in GUI ACQ module.

The examples that we used (you and me), are actually examples of SICI codes:
    1566-7529(2009)10:4;1-7

The SICI codes are converted to SISAC Barcodes using the Code 128 Standard: see http://www.barcodeisland.com/sisac.phtml.
