    Question

There are hundreds of occurrences of the following message in the run_e_01.log files:

    FUNCTION ERROR

    with ...

    Execution error : file '/exlibris/aleph/a22_1/aleph/exe/update_long_heading.gnt'

    error code: 114, pc=0, call=1, seg=0

114     Attempt to access item beyond bounds of memory (Signal 11)

    ... at the end.

What is causing this message and how can it be resolved?

    Answer

The message "More than 10000 entries" is issued by the update_long_heading program. This program reads all the Z01s which have the same Z01-ACC-CODE/Z01-ALPHA/Z01-FILING-TEXT as the ACC heading being indexed. If there are more than 10,000, it will issue this message, but, in any case, it will sort the Z01s it has, up to 10,000.

This is a problem for indexing e.g. the URL when the URL is added as a link to a foreign base. You should avoid the indexing of these often occurring URLs by adding an index filter.

    Example 1

    ! 1    2    3     4        5            6           7 8
    !!!!!-!!!!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!-!
    856##       3 volltext   URL   u
    !instead of
    !856## URL u

In this example the URL will only be indexed when subfield 3 of field 655 contains the text “volltext”.

    Example 2

    ! 1    2    3     4        5            6           7 8
    !!!!!-!!!!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!-!

    856##       u -*webscri* URL   u

    !instead of
    !856## URI u

In this example the URL will only be indexed when subfield u DOES NOT contain the text "webscri"
