    Question

We notice that the time out messages in the www_server log usually (not always) are in pairs. Can you tell us what they mean? For example, what is connection 1 status 4? or connection 9 status 4. why doesn’t the message at 13:17:28 have a matching reply timeout message?

    2009-07-29 13:15:06 87 [001] [vrb] check_timeout: reply timeout connection 1 status 4
    2009-07-29 13:15:06 94 [001] [vrb] check_timeout: network connection timeout

    2009-07-29 13:15:43 71 [004] [vrb] check_timeout: reply timeout connection 9 status 4
    2009-07-29 13:15:43 76 [009] [vrb] check_timeout: network connection timeout

    2009-07-29 13:17:28 00 [002] [vrb] check_timeout: network connection timeout

    Answer

The message "reply timeout connection" is the result of this parameter in $aleph_proc/www_server:

    setenv WWW_SERVER_TIMEOUT 60

and the "network connection timeout" is the result of:

    setenv WWW_CONNECTION_TIMEOUT 60

These *could* be increased to 120.

NOTE: The downside is the possibility that certain bad transactions could consistently take 60-119 seconds and still not give no results
