Question

How are the xxx directories in GUI used?

Answer

Aleph installation creates 'XXX' and 'XXX_lng' directories as part of the installation. These directories are used as master directories for each language.
The mechanism is that Aleph creates the language directories from the relevant 'XXX' directories based on the languages the user choose to install.
The 'XXX' directories don't include the '#' sign that indicates if the line was changed by the customer or not since it's the "master" files.
The customers should not delete the 'XXX' directories, since it is used by AlephADM for comparing language files. It is also used when installing Aleph on an existing installation.
